Peter Gough

Peter Gough is a Senior Lecturer in Digital Innovation at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU), affiliated with PrintCity, the university’s digital manufacturing hub. With over 25 years of experience in higher education, his career spans diverse fields including dental healthcare, app/web development, and additive manufacturing. He leads the MSc Digital Design and Manufacturing programme, launched in 2018 to address industry needs highlighted in the Made Smarter Review. His research focuses on digital innovation, VR applications (e.g., Gravity Sketch and Unity), and sustainable waste management via projects like Interreg ShaRepair. He emphasizes employability through collaborative, iterative learning approaches.

Education & Qualifications: MSc, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

Research Interests: Digital innovation for Industry 4.0, additive manufacturing applications, VR-driven design, and education technology. He actively contributes to reducing electronic waste through the ShaRepair project, promoting repair cafes across Europe. His pedagogical approach integrates soft skills and real-world industry collaboration.

Advising & Projects: Supervised students now working at Aramco Aston Martin F1, managing 3D print facilities, and pursuing PhDs. Collaborated on the ShaRepair EU project to reduce WEEE by developing repair infrastructure. Presented at 2022 Autodesk University on digital innovation.
