Peter F. Choong

Prof. Peter F. Choong holds the Sir Hugh Devine Chair of Surgery and serves as Head of the Department of Surgery at the University of Melbourne, based at St. Vincent's Hospital Melbourne. He concurrently directs Orthopaedics at St. Vincent's Hospital Melbourne and chairs the Bone and Soft Tissue Sarcoma Service at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

His research program integrates clinical orthopaedics with engineering innovation, focusing on joint replacement biomechanics, sarcoma management across age groups, and advanced prosthetic control systems. Key interests include optimizing surgical outcomes through precision alignment techniques, geriatric oncology protocols, and closed-loop myoelectric interfaces that enhance functional mobility.

Recent publications (2019-2020) reveal strong interdisciplinary convergence between surgical practice and engineering disciplines. Dominant themes include outcome analysis of knee/hip arthroplasty, sarcoma treatment efficacy in elderly populations, and adaptive algorithms for human-prosthesis interfaces.
