Peter Elliott

Peter Elliott is a College Research Fellow at Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge, and the 2025 recipient of the Anthony Whiting Fund in intellectual and cultural history. His research explores intersections between music, philosophy, science, and theology in early modern Europe.

Research Interests
Peter investigates how lutes and other plucked-string instruments functioned as metaphors in the writings of the Cambridge Platonists, analyzing how their material constraints influenced key philosophical concepts. His work bridges intellectual history, musicology, and interdisciplinary studies of early modern Europe.
