Peter E. Andersen is a Senior Researcher and Group Leader of the Biophotonic Imaging Group at the Department of Health Technology, Technical University of Denmark (DTU). He serves as Head of the DTU Health Tech PhD School and previously held roles such as Research Professor at Lund University (2006–2013). He holds MSc.E.E. (1991) and PhD (1995) degrees from DTU. His research focuses on biomedical optics, biophotonics, optical coherence tomography (OCT), multiphoton tomography, and nonlinear microscopy, with applications in dermatology, ophthalmology, and urology.
Andersen has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers and co-founded Norlase ApS. He serves on editorial boards for journals like Light: Science and Applications and Journal of Biophotonics, and has organized major conferences such as CLEO (2016–2019). His awards include the Esther Hoffman Beller Medal (2025) and Fellowships from OSA and SPIE (2015).
Current projects include PROSCOPE (point-of-care colorectal cancer diagnosis) and optical imaging for diabetes-related neuropathy. He leads initiatives like the International Graduate Biophotonics Summer School, contributing to PhD education in biophotonics.
