Peter C. Gay

Peter C. Gay, M.D., is a Professor of Medicine at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and a Consultant in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. His work focuses on optimizing noninvasive ventilation (NIV) delivery for chronic respiratory failure and addressing Medicare coverage barriers to improve patient access.

• Education: MD from the University of Hawaii, Manoa; MS in Physiology from the University of Hawaii, Honolulu; BA from Middlebury College. Completed residencies and fellowships in internal medicine, pulmonary diseases, and emergency medical services at Mayo Clinic programs.

Research Activities: Dr. Gay’s research examines the application of NIV for hypercapnic respiratory failure in neuromuscular disease, COPD, central sleep apnea, and hyperventilation syndrome. He chairs committees and technical expert panels to streamline Medicare reimbursement policies for NIV, aiming to deliver "the right device to the right patient at the right time."
