Peter C. Anderson

Peter C. Anderson is an Associate Professor in the Chemistry Department within the School of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (School of STEM) at the University of Washington Bothell. He joined the Physical Sciences Division in 2013 and specializes in computational biochemistry and molecular modeling, with research spanning drug discovery, protein dynamics, and computational biology.

Dr. Anderson's educational background includes:

• Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2007)
• B.S. in Chemistry from Pacific Lutheran University (2001)
• B.A. in French from Pacific Lutheran University (2001)

Dr. Anderson's research focuses on computational approaches to understanding protein structure and function. His work spans several key areas including high-throughput virtual screening for drug discovery against tropical diseases, molecular dynamics simulations of disease-causing mutations, and computational design of protein biosensors. His research integrates computational chemistry with biomedical applications, particularly in identifying novel inhibitors of pathogens and understanding the molecular basis of disease.

Before joining UW Bothell, Dr. Anderson completed postdoctoral research at the University of Washington Seattle (2007-2009) and Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, CA (2010-2013).

Dr. Anderson leads the Anderson Research Group, which focuses on two main areas: discovering small molecule inhibitors of lethal pathogens using polypharmacology approaches that target multiple enzymes in pathogens, and predicting the effects of human disease-causing mutations through molecular simulations. His work on tuberculosis drug discovery and understanding mutation effects in diseases like cancer and neurological disorders demonstrates the translational potential of computational approaches in biomedical research.
