Peter Beazley

Peter Beazley is a Clinical Associate Professor and Deputy Programme Director of the UEA Clinical Psychology Doctorate (ClinPsyD) within the Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychological Therapies at Norwich Medical School, University of East Anglia. He also serves as Professionalism Lead for the department and Admissions Director since October 2023. His expertise spans clinical psychology, forensic psychology, mental health law, and safeguarding. He holds advanced qualifications including a BA in Experimental Psychology from Oxford University, a DClinPsy from King’s College London, and an LLM in Mental Health Law from Northumbria University.

His research focuses on forensic assessment, mental health law, psychosis, and personality disorders. He advocates for evidence-based clinical practice and training clinicians to address complex mental health challenges. Key contributions include work on autism and mental health legislation, malingering in legal contexts, and mental health stigma reduction. He has published extensively, including peer-reviewed articles on judicial decisions in sentencing and safeguarding adult reviews.

Dr. Beazley is an expert witness with experience in criminal, civil, and family courts, contributing to risk assessments, mental capacity evaluations, and safeguarding reviews. He leads the Mental Health Law CPD program and has authored four Safeguarding Adult Reviews (SARs) for Essex, Norfolk, and Cambridgeshire. His academic awards include Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).

He actively collaborates with NHS Trusts and contributes to professional development through peer reviews (e.g., Journal of Psychiatric Research), programme examining roles (University of Bath), and public/government committees. His teaching emphasizes forensic approaches to personality disorders, risk assessment, and mental health law compliance.
