Peter Balsam

Peter Balsam serves as an Adjunct Professor of Medical Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry at Barnard College, Columbia University. His academic home is at 415 Milbank Hall, where he maintains his laboratory space and conducts research on learning mechanisms and temporal processing.

Dr. Balsam received his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro in 1975. His educational background established the foundation for his decades-long research career focused on behavioral neuroscience.

His research interests center on the analysis of learning mechanisms with particular emphasis on how organisms perceive and use temporal information. Dr. Balsam's work explores how interval timing plays a critical role in guiding learning and behavior across species.
