About
Peter Kelemen is Thomas Alva Edison/Con Edison Professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Columbia University. He teaches courses on Earth Resources and igneous/metamorphic processes.
His research investigates chemical and physical processes of fluid-rock reaction, including carbon capture and storage via mineralization, weathering of tectonically exposed mantle peridotites, and formation of oceanic and continental crust. Current projects focus on feedback between volume change and cracking in engineered settings.
Kelemen leads field research on carbon mineralization processes and mentors graduate students in geochemistry and tectonics.
