Peter Alagona

Peter Alagona serves as an Associate Professor of History, Geography, and Environmental Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He earned his PhD in History from UCLA and completed postdoctoral fellowships at Harvard University and Stanford University.

His research centers on environmental history and the history of science, examining human-wildlife coexistence in shared habitats, resource conflicts, and pathways to sustainable societies. Alagona investigates how interactions with non-human species inform conservation policy and social justice, with significant contributions to understanding endangered species politics as demonstrated in his acclaimed book After the Grizzly: Endangered Species and the Politics of Place in California (2013).
