University of California, Los AngelesAbout
Peter A. Edwards is a Distinguished Research Professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), holding dual appointments in the Department of Biological Chemistry and the Department of Medicine within the David Geffen School of Medicine. His research focuses on lipid metabolism, bile acid biology, and the molecular mechanisms underlying metabolic and cardiovascular diseases. Edwards has made significant contributions to understanding nuclear receptor signaling, particularly FXR and LXR pathways, and their roles in regulating cholesterol, bile acid, and lipid homeostasis.
Key research areas include the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and the pleiotropic effects of bile acids in metabolic regulation. His work integrates molecular genetics, cell biology, and systems biology approaches to dissect disease mechanisms and identify therapeutic targets.
Edwards' lab is part of the UCLA Department of Biological Chemistry, located at the Charles E Young Drive South campus. He oversees a team investigating transcriptional regulation, lipid transporters (ABCG proteins), and the interplay between inflammation and metabolic disorders. His research has been published in high-impact journals such as Cell Metabolism, Circulation, and FEBS Letters.
