Pete Williams

Pete Williams is a Professor in Neurobiology and Research Group Leader at Karolinska Institutet's Department of Clinical Neuroscience. He also leads the Glaucoma research group at St. Erik Eye Hospital and serves as CEO of Mim Neurosciences AB. With a background in Biomedical Sciences (Cardiff University, 2009) and a PhD in Visual Neuroscience (2012), his postdoctoral work focused on glaucoma mechanisms under Prof. Simon John at The Jackson Laboratory. He joined Karolinska Institutet in 2017, establishing his lab in 2018.

His research explores early neurodegenerative mechanisms in glaucoma, emphasizing mitochondrial dysfunction and metabolic pathways. Key areas include NAD+ metabolism, gene therapies, and neuroprotective strategies. His lab works across animal models, clinical trials, and translational research to develop therapies addressing glaucoma's metabolic and genetic roots.

Williams has received awards such as the ARVO Carl Camras Award (2023), Alcon Young Investigator Award (2021), and Excellence in Neuroscience Research (Karolinska, 2019). He leads Phase II/III clinical trials, studies mitochondrial dynamics, and collaborates internationally on glaucoma biomarkers and therapies.
