Peta-Jane Secrett

Peta-Jane Secrett is an Associate Lecturer at the Curtin Law School within the Faculty of Business and Law at Curtin University. She also serves in the Office of the Provost. Her work focuses on equipping first-year law students with technical writing and research skills while conducting research on Australian legislation related to human trafficking and modern slavery. She holds a PhD in Law from the University of Western Australia (UWA), alongside LLB (Hons) and BCom degrees from UWA.

Research Interests: Human trafficking, modern slavery, business and human rights law. Her research critiques Australian legal frameworks and explores intersections between law, policy, and societal impacts of exploitative practices.

Teaching: Courses include Legal Research and Writing, Human Rights Law, and Professional Responsibility. She emphasizes practical skills for legal professionals.

Advising and Collaboration: Open to supervising doctoral students and collaborating on research projects in human trafficking, modern slavery, and business and human rights. Past career included roles as a commercial lawyer in Perth, Sydney, and London, alongside volunteer work at a community legal center supporting migrants.
