Perry Pei-Ju Yang is a Professor of City & Regional Planning and Architecture at the Georgia Institute of Technology, serving as Director of the Eco Urban Lab. He holds dual affiliations within the College of Design's School of City & Regional Planning and School of Architecture. His roles include Visiting Professor at the University of Tokyo (2022–2023), Visiting Scientist at Cambridge University’s CARES in Singapore (2023), and former endowed Bayer Chair Professor at Tongji University (2014–2018).
Yang’s research focuses on integrating data analytics into urban design to enhance ecological and energy performance of cities. He has authored over 50 articles and co-edited influential works like Urban Systems Design: Creating Sustainable Smart Cities (2020, Elsevier). His projects span smart city initiatives in Japan (e.g., Tokyo’s 2020 Olympic sites) and ecological revitalization efforts in Asia, including the 2009 World Games Park in Kaohsiung (CNN-featured eco venue) and Musi River projects in Hyderabad.
Awards: Fulbright Scholar, SPURS Fellow (MIT, 1999–2000), Bayer Chair Professorship, and recognition in international design competitions since 2005. He serves on the board of the International Urban Planning and Environment Association (UPE) and the scientific committee of the International Conference on Applied Energy (ICAE).
