Pernilla Severson

Pernilla Severson is an Associate Professor (Docent) in Media and Communication Studies at Linnaeus University's Department of Media and Journalism, Faculty of Arts and Humanities. She holds a PhD from Uppsala University (2004) and specializes in media development, participatory practices, democratic values, gender studies, and digital methods. She leads the 'Everyday Democracy' track within the knowledge environment 'A Questioned Democracy,' addressing polarization and radicalization. She also serves as head of the Journalism subject and deputy member of the faculty board.

Her research explores media innovation, public service media, digital archives, and gender representation. Notable projects include the Digital Methods Platform for Arts and Humanities (DiMPAH) and studies on suffragette movements in news media. She teaches digital methods, media development, and supervises PhD students in these areas.

Her work emphasizes critical digital methods, including netnography and participatory action research. She collaborates with the Linnaeus Media Observatory (LiMO) and contributes to projects like 'Alternative Media Logic' examining democratic discourse challenges.
