Perla Ayala

Dr. Perla Ayala is an Associate Professor in the Biomedical Engineering Department at California State University, Long Beach, where she has been since Fall 2016. Her research focuses on engineered therapeutic systems for tissue regeneration, integrating microstructural design and stem cell therapies.

Her academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the University of California, Berkeley and San Francisco (2011), followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School and the Wyss Institute (2012-2016).

Research Trends: Dr. Ayala's publications span cardiac repair microstructures, immune-modulating tissue systems, and anti-infective biomaterials. Key themes include 3D biomaterial scaffolding, stem cell delivery optimization, and topography-driven cellular responses.
