Perihan Yavash

Perihan Yavash is a Senior Lecturer in Economics at Coventry University. She has been actively involved in academic and administrative responsibilities since 2001, including roles on the Faculty Board and Staff Forum, and as the Departmental Ethics Leader. Her teaching focuses on macroeconomics, international trade, and the global economy.

• Education: Pursuing a D.Soc.Sci. at the University of Leicester; holds an M.Sc. in Economics from Birkbeck College, University of London; a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (P.G.C.E.) from the Institute of Education, University of London; and a B.A (Hons) in Economics from Portsmouth Polytechnic.

Her research explores macroeconomic challenges, international trade dynamics, and global economic systems, with a focus on pedagogical frameworks like threshold concepts. One notable output is her case study on budget deficits, which examines their economic implications within fiscal policy and macroeconomic stability.

Between 2004 and 2010, she secured multiple grants from the Higher Education Academy (HEA) and its Economics Network for projects on economics education, collaborative learning, and student assessment. These include funding for evaluating MBA students' challenges with threshold concepts (2006–2007, £4,967) and enhancing undergraduates' understanding of economic principles (2004–2007, £10,750).
