About
Per Wretenberg is a Professor at Örebro University, affiliated with the School of Medical Sciences and the Department of Medical Sciences. He leads the orthopedic research team and the Department of Orthopedics and Hand Surgery at Örebro County Region. His research focuses on biomechanics, hip and knee arthroplasty, and innovative surgical techniques like robotic assistance and implant micromotion analysis. He has supervised 10 PhD students since 2018 and currently advises 5 ongoing projects. Wretenberg is also responsible for medical student education in orthopedics and neurology, and chairs the Theme Neuro- and Movement (NR) committee.
Research Interests
His work spans biomechanics of joint replacement surgeries, implant design, and surgical outcomes. Key projects include developing CT-based motion analysis (IMA), robotic-assisted knee arthroplasty, and studying implant loosening mechanisms. He also investigates fracture management, obesity’s role in joint surgery, and patient outcomes post-procedures.
Recent Trends in Publications
Recent articles focus on implant micromotion analysis, robotic surgery advancements, and patient outcomes in hip/knee replacements. Studies also address socioeconomic factors in fracture recovery and frailty’s impact on surgical mortality.
Grants and Advising
Wretenberg oversees multiple grants for projects like OPTION (reducing postoperative urinary retention) and bariatric surgery’s effect on knee arthroplasty. He collaborates with institutions like Sectra AB on IMA technology.
Labs and Teams
He leads a multidisciplinary team at Örebro’s prosthetic surgery center in Lindesberg, specializing in high-volume hip/knee replacements and clinical research. The group includes 3 associate professors and researchers in cartilage repair and biomechanics.
