Per Urlaub is Professor of German and Second Language Studies at MIT, where he directs the Global Languages program. His scholarship intersects technology, literacy development, and intercultural learning in language education.

Research explores impacts of machine translation/AI on language acquisition, digital mapmaking in study abroad contexts, and literacy development. Current projects investigate generative AI's role in humanities education and geoinformatics applications for cultural identity studies.
He has taught at University of Texas at Austin and Middlebury College, where he served as Language Schools Associate Dean. Leads initiatives on technology-enhanced language learning and digital humanities approaches to European cultural identity.
