Per Nilsén

Per Nilsén is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Law, Lund University, and holds Researcher positions in Legal History and Public Law. His research focuses on the historical development of public law as a system of political, philosophical, and religious ideas, with comparative perspectives across Nordic and European contexts. He has conducted extended research in Germany and Scandinavia, enriching his interdisciplinary approach.

Teaching spans roles at Lund University (2000–2004, 2008–present) and the University of Southern Denmark (2004–2008), covering Legal History, Constitutional Law, Legal Philosophy, and Comparative Law. He served as course coordinator, educational manager, external examiner at Roskilde and Aalborg Universities, and Lehrbeauftragter at Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Universität Greifswald. In 2012, the Lund Law Student Union awarded him the Pedagogical Prize for teaching excellence in Legal History.

Research interests include Swedish legal developments viewed through Nordic and European frameworks, with emphasis on public law evolution, constitutional ideas, and liberty concepts. He has edited volumes and authored chapters on 19th-century European constitutional history and legal historiography.

Professional memberships include prestigious societies such as Föreningen för utgivande av Svensk Juristtidning (2016), Vetenskapssocieteten i Lund (2012), Historische Kommission für Pommern (2011), and Vereinigung für Verfassungsgeschichte (2006). His research output spans 37 works, including books, book chapters, and consultations on legal policy.
