Per Morgen

Per Morgen is a Danish Associate Professor at the University of Southern Denmark’s Department of Physics and Chemistry, with adjunct roles in SDU Chemical Engineering. He holds a Doctor of Science degree and has led major surface analysis infrastructure development since 1991.

• Education: Cand.scient. (1969), lic.scient. (1978), dr.scient. (1991) in Physics and Chemistry from Århus University

His research spans experimental surface science, nanotechnology, and materials for energy applications. Key areas include:

• Semiconductor surface physics
• Atomic-layer thin film growth
• Nanostructured Al2O3 templates
• Nanoparticle applications in fuel cells/solar cells
• Synchrotron radiation surface studies
• Biomedical polymer surface conditioning
• Hydrogen storage materials

Recent work focuses on iridium-based electrocatalysts for water splitting, with collaborations spanning India, Japan, and Germany. He has supervised over 50 bachelor’s and master’s projects and 10 PhD theses.

He co-founded NanoS ApS in 2001 and maintains visiting professor status at the Indian Institute of Science since 2003, with notable work on tribological systems and educational technology.
