Per Gunnar Røe

Per Gunnar Røe is a Professor at the Department of Sociology and Human Geography, University of Oslo, affiliated with the Faculty of Social Sciences. He holds a Dr.Polit. from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (2001) and a Cand.Agric. in Regional Planning (1991). Prior to his professorship, he was an Associate Professor (2004–2013) and a Researcher at the Norwegian Institute for Urban and Regional Research (1992–2004).

Research Interests: Urban studies, suburbanization, mobility dynamics, social representations of place, urban planning theories, and qualitative methodologies. His work explores urban development actors, sustainable mobility transitions, and the interplay between spatial and digital mobility in urban contexts.

Key Themes in Publications: Recent articles focus on pandemic impacts on urban health (2025), suburban sustainability challenges (2023–2022), Nordic compact city models (2022), and participatory architectural practices (2022). His work bridges theoretical urban geography with practical policy implications, emphasizing equity, sustainability, and participatory planning.
