Per Aagaard

Per Aagaard is a Professor in the Department of Sports Science and Clinical Biomechanics at the University of Southern Denmark, where he leads research in the Research Unit of Muscle Physiology and Biomechanics. He also serves as a Contract Lecturer at the University of Rome "Foro Italico" teaching Biomedical Issues in Health and Exercise for the European Master of Science in Health and Physical Activity program. With a career spanning over three decades, Professor Aagaard has established himself as a leading expert in neuromuscular physiology and biomechanics.

His research interests focus on adaptive changes in neuromuscular function and muscle morphology induced by training and detraining, evaluation of mechanical muscle function in various populations, effects of resistance training on musculoskeletal health, neuromuscular aspects of ACL injury, and applications of blood flow restriction training. Professor Aagaard has made significant contributions to understanding how exercise interventions can improve function in clinical populations including older adults, stroke patients, and individuals with musculoskeletal disorders.

Analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong emphasis on translational research, with numerous studies investigating blood flow restriction training applications, biomechanical assessment of functional movements, and interventions for knee osteoarthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions.
