About
Prof. Peng Yu is a Professor of Plant Genetics at the TUM School of Life Sciences, Technical University of Munich (TUM). His research focuses on the genetic basis and environmental regulation of root system formation, interactions with soil microbiomes, and plant adaptation during domestication. He aims to integrate beneficial root-microbe interactions into sustainable crop production frameworks.
- Education: PhD in Plant Nutrition (China Agricultural University, 2016)
- Postdoctoral Fellowship: University of Bonn (2016-2020)
- Independent Research Group Leader: Institute of Crop Science and Resource Conservation (INRES), University of Bonn (2021-2024)
Research Interests: Combines genetic analysis with environmental studies to understand root system adaptations, microbiome interactions, and their roles in crop resilience. Current projects emphasize enhancing agricultural sustainability through genomic insights.
Awards: Emmy Noether Fellowship (DFG, 2021-2027), Excellent Dissertation (2017), and multiple scholarships recognizing academic excellence.
Grants: Funded by the DFG Emmy Noether Program since 2021. His work bridges fundamental plant biology with applied agricultural solutions.
Labs/Teams: Formerly led a research group at INRES, now part of TUM’s School of Life Sciences, focusing on plant genetics and microbiome research.
