About
Dr. Peera Panarut is an Affiliated Researcher at the University of Hamburg’s Centre for the Study of Manuscript Cultures (CSMC). Their work focuses on Thai manuscript traditions, epigraphic practices, and material culture analysis, particularly within the context of the Siamese Royal Court and Northern Thailand. Key projects include leading RFE16: Royal Scribes and Written Artefacts (2023–2025) and contributing to RFB03: Traditional Knowledge in Cultural and Material Transformation (2019–2022) at CSMC.
Peera’s research spans interdisciplinary fields such as manuscript conservation, multilingual epigraphy, and cultural anthropology. Their publications analyze the ritual use of golden-plate inscriptions, material characterization of manuscripts, and paracontent structures in Siamese texts. Notably, Peera co-authored studies on Northern Thai manuscripts’ material composition and explored the role of scribes in organizing royal inscriptions.
Recent articles highlight their expertise in manuscript materiality (2023–2025) and multilingual manuscript cultures, with a focus on Sanskrit-Thai-Grantha interactions and Thai-Tai script exchanges. Peera’s work also addresses conservation science, including non-invasive analysis of inks and paper coatings, as seen in collaborations with archaeometry researchers.
