Payal Mukherjee

Associate Professor Payal Mukherjee is an Adult and Paediatric ENT Surgeon specializing in hearing and balance disorders at Macquarie University. She leads a multidisciplinary research team at the Macquarie University Hearing Research Centre focused on Meniere's disease and collaborates extensively with academics at the Australian Hearing Hub across basic science to health services research projects.

Her research spans biofabrication and 3D printing applications in otology, cochlear implant accessibility, and Meniere's disease pathophysiology. She drives technological innovation in medical devices through translational research, with recent work emphasizing anatomically precise prosthetics, ossicular chain reconstruction, and healthcare access frameworks. Her fingerprint analysis reveals strong concentrations in temporal bone surgery, X-ray microtomography, and healthcare cost optimization within otology.

Professor Mukherjee holds significant leadership roles including chairing the RACS ASERNIP-s committee, serving on the TGA Advisory Committee for medical devices, and advising the Medical Devices Fund NSW Health. She currently directs three major projects: AI-enhanced CT analysis for jaw reconstruction, comparative studies of endolymphatic hydrops models, and Doppler-based characterization of biological systems dynamics.
