Paweł Gancarczyk is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, where he has been Head of the Department of Musicology since 2019. He earned his PhD in musicology from the University of Warsaw (1999) and studied at Royal Holloway, University of London (1993), and Charles University, Prague (1997).
- Current roles: Head of Department of Musicology, Polish Academy of Sciences; Editor-in-Chief of Muzyka (since 2016).
- Previous roles: Principal Investigator for HERA-funded Sound Memories project (2016–19); Assistant Professor (part-time) at the University of Warsaw (2008, 2010–13).
Research interests focus on manuscript studies, medieval music, early modern music, musical culture of Central Europe, and early music printing. His work explores the transmission of musical knowledge, liturgical repertoires, and historical contexts of musical codices.
Recent projects include the National Science Centre-funded Music in the Teutonic Order State in Prussia and the HERA-funded Sound Memories, analyzing late medieval and early modern musical heritage across Europe.

Editorial Roles: Editor-in-Chief of Muzyka (since 2016); serving on editorial boards of Hudební věda, Musicalia, Wiener Forum für ältere Musikgeschichte, and Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart.
