Paula Karger

Paula Karger is an Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, specializing in Latin American Studies and Spanish at the University of Toronto. She is affiliated with the Jackman Humanities Building in downtown Toronto. Her research focuses on cultural exchange between Arabic, Spanish, and Yucatec Mayan literatures in medieval and colonial periods, alongside the impact of experiential learning on intercultural skills development.

Education: PhD from the University of Toronto.

Research Interests: Colonial and medieval literature, Yucatec Mayan cultural production, translation studies, trans-Atlantic cultural exchanges, postcolonial theory, pedagogy, and professional skills development.

Publications include co-authorship of a chapter in Teaching Indigenous Studies in and of Latin America (forthcoming) and co-editing A Concise Companion to World Literature (Wiley-Blackwell, 2025).
