About
Dr. Paul Withey is an Associate Professor of Physics at the University of Houston-Clear Lake's College of Science and Engineering. He holds a Ph.D. in Physics from TCU, with research expertise in FTIR spectroscopy of carbon clusters, nanomaterial characterization, and carbon nanotube applications in aerospace composites.
Research focuses on spectroscopic analysis of pure carbon and silicon-carbon clusters, nanotechnology applications in nanocomposites, and magnetic nanoparticle systems. His work investigates material properties for aerospace applications where carbon nanotubes enhance strength and flexibility.
Experimental capabilities include low-temperature cryogenics, high vacuum systems, laser evaporation, thin film deposition, FTIR spectroscopy, and near-IR fluorescence spectroscopy. Mentors students in spectroscopic analysis, computational modeling, and nanomaterial characterization projects.
