Paul Schauer, Ph.D., is a Full Professor at Bowling Green State University (BGSU) in the Allen W. and Carol M. Schmidthorst College of Business, Department of Accounting and Information Systems. His academic career includes roles as Associate Professor (2005–present) and Assistant Professor (1999–2005). He holds a Ph.D. in Accounting from Temple University (1999), an MBA in Accounting from the University of Pittsburgh (1978), and a B.S. in Mathematics and Economics from the same institution (1976). He is a Certified Public Accountant (1982) and Certified Information Systems Auditor (1987).
Dr. Schauer’s research focuses on tax and retirement planning, audit quality, audit fees, information security, and the audit industry’s competitive dynamics. He has published in journals like the Academy of Accounting and Financial Studies Journal and contributed to applied research on automated fraud detection. His teaching spans public accounting, information systems auditing, and financial accounting, with a career spanning nearly two decades in public accounting before academia.
