Professor Paul Nimmo holds the King's Chair of Systematic Theology (1620) at the University of Aberdeen, having previously served as Meldrum Senior Lecturer in Reformed Theology at the University of Edinburgh. His research focuses on core Christian doctrines, Reformed tradition, and the works of Karl Barth and Friedrich Schleiermacher, examining their biblical roots and contemporary relevance.
Current projects include monographs on Barth's understanding of the Lord's Supper and the doctrine of sanctification. Nimmo serves as Senior Editor of the International Journal of Systematic Theology and co-edits major reference works including The Oxford Handbook of Karl Barth. His interdisciplinary engagement bridges theology and church practice.
He received the John Templeton Award for Theological Promise for his book 'Being in Action: The Theological Shape of Barth's Ethical Vision'. As Vice-Convenor of the Theological Forum of the Church of Scotland, he facilitates ecumenical dialogue with the Roman Catholic Church through the Council of Protestant Churches in Europe.
