Professor Paul Mativenga holds the Chair in Multi-scale and Sustainable Manufacturing at the University of Manchester's School of Engineering. He serves as Director of the Laser Processing Research Laboratory (LPRL) and Head of the Manufacturing Group.
His research develops engineering solutions for industrial sustainability challenges, focusing on resource-efficient manufacturing technologies including laser processing, additive manufacturing, micro-manufacturing, and low-carbon production systems. His work advances circular economy principles in industrial contexts.
Professor Mativenga's research has been funded by EPSRC, Innovate UK, and industrial partners. He holds leadership roles including membership in the International Academy of Production Engineering and chairs the 2025 Life Cycle Engineering (LCE) conference. At Manchester, he serves on the University Senate and Board of Governors, and previously held positions as Vice Dean for Social Responsibility and EDI, and Head of Department.
