Dr. Paul MacLennan is a Professor of Surgery and Associate Director of Transplant Analytics, Informatics & Quality at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). He holds joint appointments in the School of Medicine (Department of Surgery - Transplantation) and the School of Public Health (Epidemiology). His expertise includes epidemiology, transplant outcomes, health disparities, and HIV-related health issues. MacLennan is affiliated with the UAB Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS), where he provides biostatistics and study design consultations.

His work also addresses obesity-related risks in living donors and policy implications of revised eGFR formulas.

MacLennan has led or co-led grants totaling over $10 million, including NIH-funded studies on HIV-to-HIV transplantation, APOL1 genetics in kidney disease, and living donor outcomes.
