Dr. Paul Kwon is a Professor and Director of Clinical Training in the Department of Psychology at the University of Nevada, Reno (joined 2022). Previously, he served as Professor at Washington State University (WSU) for 25 years, including roles as Director of the Psychology Clinic and Director of Clinical Training. He holds affiliate professorships in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and editorial roles for Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity, Journal of Clinical Psychology, and Cognitive Therapy and Research. He evaluates doctoral programs for the APA Commission on Accreditation, having conducted 30 site visits as chair in 17 instances.
His education includes a B.A. in Psychology and Economics from Williams College (1990) and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Penn State (1996). His research focuses on resilience mechanisms among LGBTQ+ and ethnic minority populations facing stigma, emphasizing interventions to enhance coping and thriving. Key topics include inclusive sex education, bullying impact on mental health, and workplace discrimination.
Dr. Kwon’s work bridges clinical psychology with social justice, addressing systemic barriers through empirical research and policy advocacy. He is planning to admit a graduate student starting Fall 2025.
