Paul Johnson is a Professor at the University of Southern Maine's School of Social Work, where he has taught for 24 years. His expertise spans social work practice, policy, research, fieldwork, and groupwork. He holds a Doctor of Social Work (DSW) and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
Research interests include trauma, loss, grief, diversity, interculturalism, refugee resettlement, and healing practices through traditions, rituals, and groupwork. He has authored/co-authored three books, including Collective Trauma and Human Suffering and Empowering Children through Art and Expression, and contributed over 50 articles. He serves on the Editorial Board of Groupwork since 2010.
Prior to academia, he worked in social work roles in New York City (1986–1995) and the UK. His office is located at Portland campus, Masterton Hall, G23.
