Paul Genever

Paul Genever is a Professor of Biology at the University of York. His research focuses on identifying cellular and molecular pathways regulating skeletal tissue function, particularly in bone, cartilage, and marrow. He investigates adult stem cell fate, tissue regeneration, and their application in regenerative medicine, including therapies for osteoarthritis. Current projects include analyzing mesenchymal stromal/stem cell subpopulations and optimizing exosome production for clinical use.

He has held roles such as Senior Lecturer, Research Fellow, and Reader at York, contributing to over 133 publications and 26 funded projects. Collaborations span global institutions, with top research areas in stem cell biology and biomaterials. Genever leads initiatives like the RENEWAL KEY project targeting osteoarthritis solutions and an MRC-funded spin-out company. He actively participates in academic outreach, including Lab Visit Days, and serves on the VERSUS Arthritis board and Mesenbio institution.

His datasets include surfaceomics analyses of MSC lines and lipidomic profiling of joint tissues. Research outputs emphasize MSC heterogeneity, extracellular matrix regulation, and engineered biomaterials for stem cell growth.
