About
Paul Evans is a Royal Society Wolfson Fellow and Distinguished Professor of Applied Imaging Science at Nottingham Trent University, where he leads the Imaging Science Group within the Computer Science department. His research focuses on innovative X-ray imaging technologies for security and medical applications, combining the fields of radiography and crystallography.
Professor Evans' research spans Applied Imaging Science, X-ray Imaging, 3D Imaging, Security Screening, Materials Identification, X-ray Diffraction, and X-ray Tomography. He has pioneered technologies including kinetic depth effect X-ray imaging (KDEX), laminography, binocular stereoscopic imaging, focal construct tomography (FCT), and focal construct geometry (FCG). His work has generated a portfolio of international patents in 3-dimensional X-ray imaging and materials identification.
His publication record demonstrates consistent advancement in conical shell X-ray beam technology, energy-dispersive X-ray diffraction, and materials identification. Recent work (2022-2023) has advanced micro-computed tomography for bone microarchitecture analysis, sparse sampling techniques for high-resolution imaging, and depth-resolved high-energy X-ray diffraction. His research consistently bridges fundamental physics with practical applications in security screening and medical diagnostics.
- Royal Society Wolfson Fellow (2018)
