Paul Dewick

Professor Paul Dewick is the Research Director for the Faculty of Business and Law at Manchester Metropolitan University and holds the title of Professor of Sustainability. Previously, he served as Professor of Sustainability and Innovation at Keele University, and held roles at the University of Manchester and UMIST. He earned his PhD in 2005 from the University of Manchester. His research focuses on innovation in sustainable consumption and production systems, particularly the circular economy's place-based impacts. He leads a £1.1m UKRI-funded project exploring equitable, inclusive, and environmentally sustainable living through circular society innovations. Awards include the 2019 ‘Outstanding Contribution to Social Innovation’ and multiple teaching accolades. He is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at Manchester Institute of Innovation Research and sits on peer review panels for ESRC, British Academy of Management, and UKRI Future Leaders Fellowships.

Education: PhD in Management (2005), University of Manchester; MSc and BSc from UMIST. Research engagements include leadership roles in Future Earth Knowledge Action Networks and the Circular Economy Working Group. Teaching innovations have been recognized globally, including the AACSB ‘Innovations that inspire’ Award (2016). Professional memberships span editorial boards (Springer’s Circular Economy and Sustainability, OAE’s Carbon Footprint journal) and international collaborations with institutions like HU University of Applied Sciences (Netherlands) and Illinois Institute of Technology (US).

Key research interests: Circular economy formalization, biodiversity integration, sustainable supply chains, and inquiry-based pedagogy. Grants secured exceed £2.75m, with projects funded by ESRC, British Academy, Innovate UK, and international bodies. Supervised seven PhD students, many now in academia or government roles. His work bridges academic rigor with societal impact, emphasizing participatory approaches and policy engagement.
