Paul D. Fallon is an Associate Professor in the Department of English and Linguistics at the University of Mary Washington (UMW). He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. from The Ohio State University, along with a B.S. and M.S. in linguistics from Georgetown University. His academic expertise centers on the sound patterns of languages, with a focus on phonology and linguistic fieldwork.
Dr. Fallon’s research includes fieldwork with speakers of the Blin language in Eritrea, exploring the interaction between linguistic rhythm and grammatical structures. He also works on creating a dictionary database of his fieldnotes and has contributed to Elsevier’s Encyclopedia of Language and Linguistics, 2nd Edition.
He has served as an associate editor for The International Journal of the Humanities and is on the advisory board of the Linguist List. His professional memberships include the Linguistic Society of America, the International Phonetic Association, the American Dialect Society, the Dictionary Society of North America, and Phi Beta Kappa.
