Paul Copeland

Professor Paul Copeland is a leading academic in Public Policy at Queen Mary University of London’s School of Politics and International Relations. His research expertise spans the political economy of European integration, UK-EU relations, and the role of media in shaping Euroscepticism. He holds a BA, MA RES, and PhD from the University of Manchester, and a PGcap from Queen Mary.

His work bridges social sciences and law, focusing on EU employment/social policy, Brexit’s socio-economic implications, and the EU’s social dimension. Notable publications include Governance and the European Social Dimension (2020), shortlisted for the UACES Best Book Prize. He has advised the European Parliament, House of Lords, and media outlets like BBC and France 24.

As former Deputy Director of the ESRC-funded LISS DTP and founding director of Queen Mary’s Centre for European Research, he promotes interdisciplinary scholarship. Awards include Queen Mary’s Education Excellence Award (2019) for innovative teaching methods. Current PhD supervision focuses on EU trade policy post-Brexit and pan-European integration critiques.
