Dr. Paul Babinski is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Copenhagen, affiliated with the EuQu project funded by the European Research Council (ERC). His research focuses on early modern oriental philology, particularly the role of Ottoman scholarship in shaping Western European oriental studies during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. He examines Islamic manuscript collections to reconstruct scholarly practices and libraries of early orientalists.
Education: PhD in History (Princeton University, 2020).
Current Project: Studying Qur’an manuscript provenance and readers’ notes in early modern Northern European collections to trace Arabic Qur’an interpretation.
Advising/Grants: Part of ERC-funded EuQu project (Grant No. 810141). His work bridges historical methodologies with textual analysis, emphasizing transregional scholarly exchanges.
Labs/Teams: Collaborates with the EuQu research group exploring the Qur’an’s material and intellectual history in early modern Europe.
