Paul Allain

Paul Allain is a Professor of Theatre and Performance at the University of Kent's School of Arts, serving as Director of Research and Innovation from September 2025. His career includes roles as Dean of the Graduate School (2016–2019) and Dean of the Graduate and Researcher College (2019–2022). A leading expert in Polish theatre, Jerzy Grotowski’s practices, and physical acting, Allain has published extensively, including the Routledge Companion to Theatre and Performance (2006, 2025). His research explores actor training, digital tools in performance, and intercultural theatre. He has received awards for promoting Polish culture and has advised international institutions. Allain’s work bridges academic scholarship and practical theatre training, with notable projects like the Leverhulme-funded films on physical acting and editorial roles in journals such as Theatre, Dance and Performance Training.
