Distinguished Professor Patsy Yates, AM, PhD, RN, is the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Health at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). She holds dual roles as Co-Director of QUT’s Centre for Healthcare Transformation and Lead Researcher at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital’s Cancer Nursing Professorial Precinct. Previously, she led QUT’s School of Nursing and directed Queensland Health’s Palliative Care Research and Education Centre. Her research focuses on cancer, palliative, and aged care workforce development, symptom management, and policy-practice integration. She also chairs the End of Life Policy Chapter for the Australian College of Nursing.
Education: PhD (University of Queensland), MSocSc, BA, DipAppSc (Queensland Institute of Technology).
Research Interests: Palliative care delivery, cancer symptom management, aged care innovation, healthcare outcomes research, and interdisciplinary palliative care models. Her work emphasizes translational research bridging clinical practice, policy, and education.
Notable Projects: Leads国家级 projects including the Primary Health Care Quality and Coordination Program, PCOC, and PEPA/PCC4U training collaboratives. Current grants span paediatric palliative care, cannabis in symptom management, and shared-care models for cancer survivors.
Awards: Inductee into Sigma Theta Tau’s Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame, ONS Distinguished Researcher Award, and Fellowships in multiple academies. Recognized nationally and internationally for leadership in nursing and palliative care.
Grants & Teams: Principal investigator on over $40M in competitive grants. Co-leads interdisciplinary teams across 20+ funded projects, including the Centre of Research Excellence for Paediatric Palliative Care and the MEDCAN3 cannabis trial. Supervises 13+ PhD/MPhil students focusing on palliative care innovation and nursing practice.
