Patrik Johansson is Professor of Physics at Chalmers University of Technology, leading research on next-generation battery electrolytes. His group develops novel electrolyte systems for multivalent batteries (Ca, Mg), sustainable sodium-ion systems, and non-corrosive aluminum batteries, combining computational design with experimental validation.
Research directions include:
- Calcium battery electrolytes using molten salts and entropy stabilization
- Waste-derived electrode materials for sustainable storage
- Highly concentrated electrolytes for sodium and sodium-oxygen batteries
- Fluorinated ether-based formulations for lithium metal stability
As co-director of Alistore-ERI and participant in EU projects including BIG-MAP, he coordinates European battery research. Awarded BASF's Open Innovation Prize for aluminum battery concepts.
