Patrick W. Berry is an Associate Professor in the Department of Writing Studies, Rhetoric, and Composition at Syracuse University's College of Arts and Sciences. His affiliations include Women's and Gender Studies, Digital Humanities (ILM), and Health Humanities (ILM). He holds a Ph.D. and has authored significant works such as Doing Time, Writing Lives: Refiguring Literacy and Higher Education in Prison (2017) and Transnational Literate Lives in Digital Times (2012), the latter of which earned two major awards from the Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC).
His research focuses on literacy practices in carceral systems, transnational digital communication, and intersections of rhetoric with social justice. Berry’s work bridges theory and practice, advocating for inclusive educational access and critical engagement with technology. His awards highlight contributions to both research and pedagogical innovation.
