Patrick Schena is the Barton L. Rachlin, E59, A85P Professor of Practice in the Department of Economics at Tufts University and Director of Tufts' Finance Minor. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor of International Business at The Fletcher School, where he has taught finance, investment management, and private equity for over 20 years. He is Co-Head of SovereigNet (The Fletcher Network for Sovereign Wealth and Global Capital) since 2009 and an Associate-in-Research at Harvard University’s Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies.
Dr. Schena holds a PhD from The Fletcher School (Tufts) in international finance and capital markets, an MA in Law and Diplomacy from Fletcher, and BA/MA degrees from Boston College. His 30-year career includes roles as CFO/CEO in fintech startups, Fortune 500 firms, and advisory work for the World Bank. He has led research on sovereign wealth funds, resource management, and global investment strategies.
His research focuses on finance & banking in East Asia, sovereign wealth fund governance, and strategic capital allocation. Recent work addresses oil wealth management in Guyana and the role of SWFs in economic development. He has authored/co-authored 22 publications including the book Sovereign Wealth Funds Between the State and Markets.
