About
Dr. Patrick Louchouarn is Professor and Senior Vice Provost for Faculty at Ohio State University. He earned his Ph.D. from Université du Québec à Montréal (1997) and conducts multidisciplinary research on biogeochemical cycling at ecosystem interfaces. His work focuses on fire markers in environmental records, material fluxes in watersheds, and anthropogenic impacts on biogeochemical processes.
Research examines pyrogenic carbon cycling, environmental contaminants (organics, heavy metals), and biomarker applications for paleoenvironmental reconstructions. Studies span Arctic rivers, coastal sinkholes, and urban estuaries, employing geochemical and isotopic methods to track historical pollution and carbon dynamics.
Publications include investigations of Holocene climate variability using Bahamian sinkhole sediments, wildfire impacts on Arctic carbon transport, and blue carbon sequestration in Gulf Coast wetlands. He has received numerous honors including Regents Professor and Distinguished Achievement Awards.
