Patrick J. Devine

Patrick J. Devine is a tenured Professor of Psychology at Kennesaw State University, where he has served since 1980. A licensed psychologist in Georgia, he specializes in Industrial-Organizational and Sport Psychology. Dr. Devine teaches primarily online, focusing on Industrial-Organizational Psychology, Workplace Motivation and Leadership, and core departmental courses including Careers in Psychology and Capstone Seminar.

His educational background includes:

• Ph.D. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology, Illinois Institute of Technology (1980)
• M.Ed. in Counseling/Community Psychology, Georgia State University (1975)
• B.A. in Psychology and Business Management, John Carroll University (1974)

Dr. Devine's research encompasses psychometrics (specifically Item Response Theory), employment selection and fair hiring practices, leadership theory, institutional research, and cross-cultural assessment of attitudes toward mental illness. His current cross-cultural research is driven by his leadership of the Psychology in Peru education abroad program, which provides students with international research experience.

Among his recognitions, Dr. Devine received the Faculty Advisor of the Year award from NACADA (National Academic Advising Association) for his contributions to academic advisement.

Professionally, he has consulted for major organizations including Motorola, the New York Stock Exchange, and several Major League Baseball teams (Atlanta Braves, Montreal Expos, Florida Marlins, Milwaukee Brewers) in areas such as leadership development, executive coaching, and sport performance enhancement. He founded the non-profit Achieve-Thrive to assist homeless individuals in gaining employment and achieving self-sufficiency. Additionally, he served as KSU's Faculty Athletics Representative to the NCAA for nearly a decade and chaired the President’s Athletic Oversight Council.

Dr. Devine has also been actively involved in community service, including teaching AP Psychology and coaching football at Holy Spirit Preparatory School from 2005 to 2021.
