Patrick Heslin is a postdoctoral researcher in the Applied Analysis group at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences (MPI MiS) since September 2024. He completed his Ph.D. at the University of Notre Dame under Prof. Gerard Misiołek. His research focuses on the geometry and analysis of non-linear PDEs in fluid dynamics and mathematical physics, with a specific emphasis on the Riemannian geometry of diffeomorphism groups equipped with Sobolev-type metrics.
Originally from Leitrim, Ireland, Heslin has embraced Leipzig, Germany, where he enjoys bouldering, spending time with his girlfriend and two cats, and engaging in GAA sports and poker. Colleagues describe him as part of the institute's vibrant and welcoming scientific community.
