Patrick F. Doherty

Patrick Doherty, MD, is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at Yale School of Medicine. He serves as the Chief of Neurosurgery at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, CT, maintaining a full-time clinical practice while leading the Spine Care Center of Excellence. His work integrates minimally invasive spine techniques, patient safety programs, and spine collaboratives for cost containment.

Dr. Doherty specializes in spinal surgery and cranial surgery, with a focus on degenerative spine care. His research emphasizes 10 kHz spinal cord stimulation for chronic pain management and opioid reduction, as evidenced by publications in Journal of Pain Research and Journal of International Medical Research.

He has lectured nationally and internationally on minimally invasive spine techniques and serves on multiple leadership committees at L+M Hospital, including the Surgical Services Governance Committee. Awards include Connecticut Top Doctor (2011–present) and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (2012).
